Executive Board Positions

The Executive Board for the Kaplan University Chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society as expanded the current Executive Board. As a result, there are several available Executive Board positions that Golden Key would like to fill. We are looking for a few good men and women that would like to become a part of the Executive Board for this distinguished chapter.

At Golden Key, we are more than good students; we are scholars. We believe in the power of knowledge to transform lives and change situations for the better. We enjoy academic challenges and strive for excellence in our fields. We are not bookish; we are learned.

This chapter has been and is currently involved in several charities providing volunteerism, community outreach, literacy, and academics just to name a few. Golden Key provides its members with an additional way to be involved in their school via an on-line environment.

Today’s job market is highly competitive and landing that new job or getting ahead of your old one is not as easy as it used to be. Companies want to see more than just a degree. A leadership role could be that competitive edge you need.

If answered yes to these questions, please feel free to submit a statement of consideration for an Executive Board position for Kaplan University’s Chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society. We are currently looking to fill the position of Treasurer, Vice President of Membership Communication, Vice President for Membership Recruitment, Historian, Education & Literacy Service Director, Outreach Liaison, Fundraising Director, and Honorary Member & Campus Officials Liaison.

These positions will end on March 15, 2014; therefore, you must be an active student with Kaplan University during this period. If you would like to apply for any of the available positions, please do so no later than May 12, 2013. The Executive Board will make their decisions on or about May 15, 2013. All submissions must include your major, current overall GPA, and why you feel that you would be the best person for the particular position to which you are applying.

There are two ways to be considered for election to any of the available Executive Board positions: 1) submit a letter of intent stating why you think you should be elected for a position along with your qualifications; 2) submit a video; an example can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7WT9OILhUw.  Please note that there will be no added weight given for a video submission.

All positions are eligible for active students only (those planning on being active for the duration of the term for the position of March 1, 2013 to March 1, 2014) who maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.

General Executive Board Requirements for all Board Members:

·         Make a good faith effort to attend the majority of chapter events throughout your term
·         Respond to chapter correspondence within 48hrs of receipt.
·         Attend all executive board meetings during your term.
·         Assist in making the membership drive for the chapter a success.
·         Represent Golden Key in a professional manner and uphold Golden Key standards when meeting or working with other organizations, students, faculty, and community members.
·         Sign a professionalism contract if selected to attend Regional Summit and/or International Summit.
·         Must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA or better.
·         Return all Golden Key property within 2 weeks of your term ending.
·         Responsible for transitioning your office once your term is over.
·         Any other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.

Treasurer


ü  Manage all financial transactions of the chapter.
ü  Receive and distribute chapter funds.
ü  Work with the President and Advisor to prepare an accurate budget for the chapter within one month of the new academic year.
ü  Complete all Billhighway training.
ü  Balance the chapter account and report to the chapter at least once a month.
ü  Submit a semi-annual financial summary of income and expenses to International Headquarters.
ü  Complete Budget Reports as required by International Headquarters.


Vice President Membership Communication


ü  Coordinate and implement initiatives to reach current and potential members.
ü  Promote meetings and activities to the membership and campus-at-large.

 

Vice-President for Membership Recruitment


ü  Coordinate and implement a first-year student recognition program or year-long campaign focused on making first-year students aware of Golden Key’s opportunities.
ü  Promote Golden Key opportunities to non-members through information and advertising (i.e. book spaces for student organization fairs, flyers, etc.).
ü  Serve as the contact person for encouraging membership involvement with chapter.
ü  Work with service projects of the chapter.

Historian


ü  Oversee the completion of Activity Reports and Semi-Annual Reports.
ü  Obtain and organize important chapter documents for the chapter’s future reference.
ü  Take pictures to include on the local chapter’s independent website or in local publicity materials.

Education & Literacy Service Director


ü  Investigate volunteer programs that represent a long term education-focused commitment.
ü  Plan and coordinate two (or more) education-focused service activities throughout the year.
ü  Coordinate a service committee and call committee meetings as necessary.

Outreach Liaison


ü  Investigate member interest in non-education service opportunities.
ü  Network and partner with other student organizations with programs & activities.

Fundraising Director


ü  Investigate sources of local funding and coordinate activities. 
ü  Coordinate the fundraising committee and call committee meetings as necessary.
ü  Recruit fundraising volunteers from the chapter.

Honorary Members & Campus Officials Liaison


ü  Prepare and send chapter updates to Honorary Members throughout the year.
ü  Inform and engage Honorary Members and campus officials in Membership Drive initiatives.
ü  Lead selection process for new Honorary Member search and communicate with HQ these names two weeks prior to New Member Recognition Event for production of certificates.
ü  Prepare and send invitations for the New Member Recognition Event and other events to Honorary Members and important campus administrators.
ü  Plan and coordinate at least one Honorary Member activity per semester/term (ex. guest speakers, etc.).
ü  Coordinate updating Honorary Member contact information with HQ (who is no longer at university, email address changes, names, etc.) Send updated lists to HQ within first 4-6 weeks of semester start date.

ELECTION ANNOUNCEMENT

 OPEN EXECUTIVE BOARD POSITIONS  

 
We currently have vacant executive board positions we are looking to fill and are looking for a few good men and women that would like to be a part of the executive board for this great chapter. Do you have the desire to be involved in extracurricular?

This chapter has been and is involved in many charities providing volunteerism, community outreach, literacy, and academics to name a few. We also provide our members with another way to be involved in their school via an on-line environment. How do you want to help others?

If you answered yes to these questions please feel free to submit a statement of consideration for an executive board position for Kaplan University's Chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society. We are currently looking to fill the Finance Chair, Membership/Alumni Chair, and the Editor-In-Chief for The Golden Scholar Newsletter.

These are positions that will end on March 15, 2014 and you must be an active student with Kaplan for that period. If you would like to apply for the vacant positions please do so no later than March 31, 2013. The executive board will make their decisions on or about April 5, 2013. Your submission should include your major, current overall GPA, and why you feel that you would be the best person for the particular position to which you are applying.

The following is a description of the current positions we are looking to fill. These positions are eligible for active students (that plan to be active for the duration of the term for the position of March 1, 2013 to March 1, 2014) that maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.  The position of Alumni Chair is a non-voting executive board position and can be held by an Alumni.

FINANCE CHAIR 
  •  Manage all financial transactions of the chapter
  •  Prepare a budget for the chapter
  •  Receive and distribute chapter funds
  •  Submit a semi-annual financial summary of income and expenses to international headquarters
  •  Must maintain at least a 3.5GPA or better
  •  Any other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time . 
MEMBERSHIP / ALUMNI CHAIR 
  • Manage all coordination and communications with alumni as pertaining to the chapter and its activities in cooperation with the Communications Chair.
  • Actively assist recruitment of alumni into the chapter.
  • Advocate, recruit, support and generally coordinate activities dedicated to providing support and service to the growth of the chapter.
  • Develop philanthropy, fundraisers, & chapter activities involving alumni members for the chapter.
  • Create articles focused on alumni activities or interest for the chapter newsletter.
  • Document events for national reports and report membership numbers.
  • Attend Chapter officer meetings to report on alumni activities.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.5GPA or better.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.  
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF THE GOLDEN SCHOLAR NEWSLETTER  
  • The position of Editor-In-Chief is appointed by the Executive Board. Attendance at regular Executive Board meetings is not required.
  • This is a non-voting position.
  • Responsible for the development and completion of scheduled newsletter editions.
  • Delegates writing responsibilities and storyline ideas.
  • Adheres to deadlines, production and completion of actual newsletter for the chapter, known as “The Golden Scholar.”
  • Will work with Communications chair in distributing the newsletter to members as well as any and all other outlets in a timely fashion.
  • Will provide the Executive Board with a committee report for Executive Board Meetings which can be done via e-mail. Must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA or better.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.
The Editor-in-Chief will select his/her own Assistant Editor with the Executive Board having final approval. The Assistant Editor will have the same meeting responsibilities as the editor and will assist in all facets of production of the newsletter. This is a non-voting position and can be filled by an alumnus.
